The UC Student Volunteer Army actively encourages students to volunteer within their community. Following the September 2010 Christchurch earthquake, the SVA was formed when over 11000 students were involved in city wide clean-up and support. The SVA continues to play an important role within the community providing assistance to those in need, supporting community groups and projects, and giving students volunteering opportunities.
The SVA is the second largest club on campus with over 1400 members, so you’re sure to make lots of new friends and connections once you get involved. Our motto ‘Be the change’ describes how we aim to help students become involved with volunteering and to provide events at UC which have a positive impact.
The SVA has won many awards for its service as a club at UC. SVA has been awarded the Best Community Contribution award three years in a row now, at Supreme Clubs Awards in 2013, 2014 and 2015. All of these awards are voted for by the students of UC which just goes to show the positive change that SVA is creating at UC and in the Christchurch community.
2016 is going to be a huge year for SVA with heaps of awesome events and projects on the horizon. Our Launch Night will be held at the beginning of term 1 and is a great opportunity to come along and meet the exec, jam out to a live band and make the most of the bar tab. SVA is also proud to support the 2015 Color Run which is coming up in 1st semester. Look out for SVA in July during our 'Random Acts of Kindness Week' when we'll spread happiness and love to the UC campus! Of course SVA will also provide weekly volunteering opportunities to encourage members to help out in the Christchurch community and BE THE CHANGE!

You have human emotions. Literally anyone can join and everything’s free! We thrive off the sense of reward gained through experiencing human appreciation through volunteer projects. It also facilitates a way of meeting people; meaning that you can make friends that you’d never normally if you stayed on the couch.
The Big Give O Week Event
Saturday 4th March 2016
Connect the Community:
Saturday 5th August
These events are what we’re about – getting out there and doing it as we uniquely do! This is an en masse volunteering day when we head out to a particular community and work on a variety of projects. You may find yourself painting a mural, gardening, or building a house for turtles (a legit past project people!). After a mornings hard work we catch up for a BBQ. Possible reward for being selfless may include free entry to cool events on campus, e.g. GC Speed Dating (reow)
Round 1 24th - 26th March - Marlborough Sounds
