Reason and Science Society is a group of people with an interest in reason, science, philosophy and everything else related to understanding the world from a rational standpoint. We are concerned with critical assessment of the reasoning and evidence behind claims and beliefs, in order to discover what is true, important or applicable to society and to ourselves.

We encourage free thought and inquiry into any matters, including the underlying assumptions and conventions of society. We promote methods of knowing, e.g. critical thinking and scientific method.

We are based at the University of Canterbury Ilam campus in Christchurch, New Zealand. This club was set up as the second hub in the Reason and Science network. We are a UCSA affiliated club as of April 2011. George was a part of RSS Auckland in 2010 and has now moved to Christchurch and become a founding member of this group.

Our activities range from informal social gatherings to more formal academic events, and include: watching videos, online communications, research, interviews, podcasting, group discussions, regular meetings, social events and interaction with the public
