College of Education Gymnasium 102.
The University of Canterbury Dance Club offers a social atmosphere in which to learn impressive, fun, yet easy to learn partner dancing. Primarily we offer Salsa, Rueda, Merengue and Modern Jive lessons, but guest instructors appear throughout the year to introduce members to alternate dance styles like Cha-Cha, Swing, Zouk, Tango or Waltz.
Our first lessons for the year are an introduction to Modern Jive - a fast, flashy and fun partner dance done to popular music - and Merengue - a simple carnival dance from the Dominican Republic. Later in the term we move into Salsa, the Latin street dance with a devoted worldwide following.
The schedule for our introductory lessons is…
7.30 pm: Setup, registration and free dancing.
8.00 pm: Modern Jive beginners.
9.00 pm: Merengue beginners.
10.00 pm: Free dancing.
10.30 pm: Off to a cafe for a drink!
The classes are designed for absolute beginners so don’t be shy, come along and learn an awesome skill with the friendliest bunch of people on campus.
