EWAG (Equity and Wellbeing Advisory Group)

Are you passionate about ensuring your Students' Association is representative of all students? Do you want to help the Executive create a campus where everyone is welcome and can succeed and belong? Well then, the UCSA Equity Wellbeing Advisory Group is for you!

The UCSA Executive is committed to ensuring that the UCSA is here for all students and that the UCSA helps them succeed and feel they belong. It is of utmost importance that the UCSA is relevant to the student body and are inclusive in the services and activities we offer to our students as we represent students on over 20 university committees from University Council to Faculties and notably Central Equity and Diversity Committee.

The UCSA Equity Wellbeing Advisory Group (EWAG) will help to ensure all students have a voice within the UCSA, will create a sense of belonging on campus for all student communities, and well specifically aim to further develop diversity and inclusivity in the UCSA’s decision making.

The EWAG is a UCSA-lead committee and will be co-chaired by the UCSA Vice President and the UCSA Equity and Wellbeing representative.  The Committee will consist of between 7 and 14 student members total.

Who Can Apply?
Anyone can apply. However, as per Schedule 1 of the UCSA EWAG charter, the UCSA is seeking representation from students who identify with or have an interest in the specific areas outlined below. The Vice president and Equity and Wellbeing representative will sit alongside seven permanent seats, in addition to the up to five non-permanent seats for other areas that may be of interest in any given year. 

We are looking for!

  • Te Akatoki President or Delegate

  • Pasifika Community

  • Students with disabilities

  • Mature students

  • Womens’ rights

  • LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Queer, Intersex, Asexual +)

  • International fee paying students

  • Representatives from International Clubs

  • Representatives from the general student body

Your Responsibilities 
The UCSA EWAG is responsible for providing advice and making recommendations on issues of culture, diversity, and inclusiveness to the Executive Committee. Additionally, the Committee will provide advice to the student representatives on the UC Central Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee (CEDAC) to enable them to articulate student opinion on diversity and equity issues involving UC.

The UCSA EWAG may also function as a reference group on UCSA materials, policies, and events as well as for UC CEDAC when looking for student perspective.

How do I apply?
Applications are now open and close at 11:55pm on the 18th of November 2016. You will be notified the following week on the outcome of your application. 

Applicants will be selected based on their ability to contribute to the furthering the interests of a group they identify with or have a specific interest in, their year of study, and their involvement within both the UC community and the broader communities they identify or have an interest in. Furthermore, your commitment to attending and contributing to eight meetings a year (two per term) is a strong factor.
