Support

Advocacy & Welfare

Our Welfare and Advocacy team provide a wide range of support for our students.

Academic/Grievance Concerns

We can help with independent support, advice and advocacy on any academic decisions or grievances you may have while studying at the University of Canterbury. We are available to hear individual student issues, questions and concerns, and to provide informed and independent advice to help find a resolution. Contact the Welfare and Advocacy Team directly for assistance. For information on how to start the formal process at UC please click the following link: http://www.canterbury.ac.nz/complaints/index.shtml

Dispute Resolution - Advocate/Support (Within UC)

Our student advocate can act either on behalf of you or support you throughout the whole dispute resolution process here at UC. They can assist you preparing your case, go along to meetings with you, liaise with UC staff, assist with letter writing and more. As a employee of the UCSA they are able to act on behalf of you, the student, something that UC staff are unable to do.

Dispute Resolution - Advocate/Support (Outside UC)

We can also provide assistance/advice/support/advocacy with external issues such as tenancy tribunal and general dispute resolution issues.

Welfare

The Advocacy and Welfare Department run the UCSA Hardship Grant, the Emergency Dental Scheme and Foodbank service.

Class Rep

The Class Rep system provides an important link between the class and the lecturer. Class Reps are the first point of contact for students with issues and, once trained, offer guidance and support for their classmates.

Student Representation

The Advocacy and Welfare team work with the UCSA Student Executive to ensure student representation on UC committees, and we manage the Course Consultations, ensuring that student opinion is heard.
