Appealing a grade or exam result
If you fail a paper or get a lower grade than expected, don’t go into decline - there are avenues for you to explore.
- You can request to see your exam script in the lecturer’s office. This is a free service. You cannot, however, take the script out of the office. Seeing your script will give you an idea of what went wrong and whether it is worth taking the issue further.
- You can pay $55 and get a photocopy of your final exam which is then yours to keep forever!
- You can pay $60 and apply for a reconsideration of your final grade. This must be done within four weeks of the exam results being announced. Late reconsiderations are sometimes allowed, especially if you live outside Christchurch and are unable to easily access the process. A reconsideration consists of remarking and recounting the final exam script, together with a recount of the marks awarded for any internal assessment. If the remarking results in a change of grade, your money will be refunded. To request a reconsideration, submit the “Reconsideration of Final Grade” form and fee to Registry.
- You can appeal your final grade.
