About Jennifer Berry: Candidate Bio

Jennifer Berry-headshot

Kia Ora everyone!

My name’s Jennifer Berry and I’m stoked to be running for the Finance and Engagement officer role for the UCSA.

Here’s a little bit about me:
-I’m in my third year studying Mechanical Engineering
-I’m super passionate about sustainability and equity and am involved in research with MIT students surrounding climate justice and environmental vulnerability for Massachusetts State
-Proud aerospace nerd and completed my work experience at RocketLab 🚀
-Currently on the SVA exec as the interhall and recruitment engagement rep

This role provides a real opportunity to ensure transparency and induce pivotal change as a reflection of YOUR voice. I’m super excited by the possibility of engaging with you all to facilitate these discussions to collate your thoughts. Serving on the UCSA is such an incredible honour and I’m hoping you'll give me the trust and opportunity to represent and empower you.

The UCSA has done an incredible job engaging with students and responding to student need, however, given the unusual circumstances of this election, a smooth and quick transition is vital. If elected, my initial focus would be strengthening and completing what is already a powerful team as seamlessly as possible. I plan to hit the ground running to minimise disruption by ensuring support to current projects and investing time into meaningful communication to you all. It can be boring to read through large chunks of text (so congrats if you’ve got this far) but in order to connect with a wide range of hectic student lives, I hope to communicate through short videos and polls alongside the detailed reports.

I also plan to work on engagement with the club event calendar as a response to many of you speaking up regarding difficulty gaining similar levels of interest in events as previous years or on the other side, not knowing what club events are coming up. Club culture is such a powerful and unique experience here at UC so re-empowering it is such an important responsibility. By having an “Eventbrite/ Undertheradar” type calendar kept up to date with all upcoming clubs events, it will not only help to keep track and discover events of your favourite clubs but also learn of new cool events you can get involved in with other clubs!

Please message me with any questions, come say hi around uni or check out my Facebook event for more info!

Cheers! 🙂
