Who are the Exec?

UCSA is the University of Canterbury Students’ Association Incorporated. Established in 1894, the UCSA is a not-for-profit organisation with charitable status. Fourteen elected student representatives govern UCSA with the support and guidance of external advisors via an Advisory Board. At times the UCSA employs up to 250 full-time, part time and casual staff who report through a Manahautū | Chief Executive. We offer the diversity to reflect the many services that students have initiated to ensure that the university experience for students at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | the University of Canterbury is all that it can be.

Tumuaki | President

It should be noted that this role requires high energy and will often involve meetings in the evenings and occasional weekends. It is important that the Tumuaki | UCSA President starts as early as possible in January when the UCSA office opens, given the amount of preparatory work involved.


It is expected that the incoming Tumuaki | UCSA President will spend time with the incumbent Tumuaki | UCSA President at the end of the previous year for up to four weeks as part of a handover process, paid on evidence of hours worked (timesheets).

Tumuaki Tuarua Pāhekoheko | Vice-President - Engagement

It is important that the Tumuaki Tuarua Pāhekoheko | UCSA Vice-President - Engagement starts as early as possible in January when the UCSA office opens, given the amount of preparatory work involved.


It is expected that the incoming Tumuaki Tuarua Pāhekoheko | UCSA Vice-President - Engagement will spend time with the incumbent Tumuaki Tuarua Pāhekoheko | UCSA Vice-President - Engagement at the end of the previous year for up to 37.5 hours as part of a handover process, paid on evidence of hours worked (timesheets).

Tumuaki Tuarua Akoranga | Vice-President - Academic

It is important that the Tumuaki Tuarua Akoranga | UCSA Vice-President – Academic starts as early as possible in January when the UCSA office opens, given the amount of preparatory work involved.


It is expected that the incoming Tumuaki Tuarua Akoranga | UCSA Vice-President – Academic will spend time with the incumbent Tumuaki Tuarua Akoranga | UCSA Vice-President – Academic at the end of the previous year for up to 37.5 hours as part of a handover process, paid on evidence of hours worked (timesheets).

The Māngai Tāura | Postgraduate student representative will represent postgraduate students as well as hold responsibilities and portfolios allocated by the Tumuaki | President based on the incumbent’s strengths. This position is open to postgraduate students only.

Māngai Tāwāhi | International Representative

The Māngai Tāwāhi | International Representative will represent international students as well as hold responsibilities and portfolios allocated by the Tumuaki | President based on the incumbent’s strengths. This position is open exclusively to international fee-paying students at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | the University of Canterbury.

Māngai Taurite Me Te Oranga | Equity Representative

Position: The Māngai Taurite | UCSA Equity Student Representative will represent and promote diversity and inclusiveness among students as well as hold responsibilities and portfolios allocated by the Tumuaki | President based on the incumbent’s strengths. This position is open to the full UC student population.

Māngai Pasifika | Pacific Representative

The Māngai Pasifika | UCSA Pacific Representative will represent Pasifika students, as well as hold responsibilities and portfolios allocated by the Tumuaki | President based on the incumbent’s strengths. This position is open exclusively to Pasifika students at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | the University of Canterbury.
