The UCSA holds a zero tolerance towards any forms of harassment at our events. We are committed to placing the safety of our employees, contractors, attendees and public above all else to ensure that UCSA RE ORI ’23 delivers the best possible start to your life at UC!

We hope that the following information equips you with the knowledge about what you can do if you feel unsafe at UCSA RE ORI ’23.

Security

For your safety all our events have security guards trained in crowd management and conflict resolution.

Red Frogs

Are an epic team of volunteers who provide free water, food, a chill out space and even walk you home if you’re in a hall or flat in the immediate Ilam area. They'll be at the RE ORI ’23 gigs to help make you feel safe.

Drug Checking

Although we don’t condone drug use of any kind, but we’re aware of the realities. Which is why, we feel harm prevention methods are necessary to keep you as safe as possible. We’ve teamed up with ‘Know You Stuff’ to provide anonymous and free drug testing around RE ORI ’23.

Drug checking will be held on Tuesday 18th July, at 51 Solway Avenue, Ilam, Christchurch 8041. The service will run from 3pm to 8pm.

We’re aware we have little control over the intent for use. Which is why Know Your Stuff and the NZ Drug Foundation provide a service which helps to provide education and information to minimise alcohol and drug harm.

Sustenance

We’ve got all your food and water needs sorted at our gigs. The Foundry is your go-to for bar snacks – they’ll always be serving fried goodness to keep you going.

Thirsty? There will always be a water station nearby – because the aim is to have a good time and a long time!

Feeling unsafe at an event?

Our friendly event staff and security are always around to help! At any point if you feel unsafe, intimidated, or harassed, please make sure you let us know, by reaching out to any staff on site or if you’re after something more discreet use our number below or ask for an angel shot.

Asking for an Angel Shot is another way of telling us staff that you’re feeling harassed whilst at RE ORI ’23, and at other events throughout the year. Our event, bar and security staff know that if you ask for an Angel Shot, this means you’re distressed and need assistance. We'll discreetly take you to a safe space and support you in choosing how you’d like to proceed.

Site Lighting

Rest assured that all our outdoor site is lit throughout, so while the sun might be setting it’ll remain bright around Haere-roa.
