Access and Inclusion

UCSA ORI ‘24 is your time to shine! Our team are passionate about making your day as enjoyable as possible, so if there’s anything we can do to assist you in your access needs, please let us know - we shall make every effort to make a reasonable adjustment and meet your needs where possible.

Our Events

We try our very best to put on an epic range of events throughout the year, and ORI ’24 is no different. Throughout our ORI ’24 calendar you’ll find an event for everyone! While some events are aimed at different groups of students, everyone is always welcome to everything. Within these, if catering is offered there will always be a dietary option or two, and you will always see a smiling staff member available to help should you require any assistance.

Our Festivals

All three of our major ORI ’24 festivals (TOGA, Summer Stein and Mardi Gras), are located within an outdoor, green-space venue - Haere-roa Lawn.

  • Haere-roa Lawn is reasonably flat venue. There may be some uneven surfaces and moderate terrain (tree roots, pathways, buried sprinkler heads and potholes in the grass fields) to navigate while within the venue.
  • The entry to the venue may pose extra challenges to patrons in wheelchairs or with other access needs due to limited entry width. If you are concerned about access via the principal entrance, please contact our team, or talk to aa member of our team on the day who will be able to assist you in entering smoothly.
  • There is an accessible portaloo clearly marked and located close to the stage, and inside Haere-roa. If you require assistance accessing or finding these toilet facilities, please speak to our team.
  • All portaloos on the festival site, and inside Haere-roa are gender neutral.
  • Our staff members will be wearing Rainbow lanyards or pins to show our support for the Rainbow community. This represents our commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment for all LGBTQIA+ attendees, artists, staff and contractors
  • We have a Chill Out Zone available away from the Main Stage to provide a lower sensory area to take a break in, with a variety of seating options.

Haere-roa

Haere-roa is the home of the UCSA, and is designed for everyone to spend time in, regardless of whether an event is on or not:

  • There are Mobility Car Parks located close to Haere-roa’s main entrance and the route to the entrance is step free.
  • The building features two lifts up to each half of the second story.
  • Haere-roa is visually transparent and wheelchair accessible.
  • There are several accessible toilets within the building, including in the Social Space and the Ngaio Marsh Theatre on the first floor, and in the Bentley’s bathrooms on the second floor. These are all clearly marked.
  • All bathrooms within the building are gender neutral.
  • The Ngaio Marsh Theatre features a hearing loop – both passive and active
  • The feature lights down Central Street are usually set in colours of the rainbow.
  • The stairs up to the building from campus are painted with the Progress Pride Flag.
