The University of Canterbury Mooting Society (MootSoc) is an academic club for law students interested in court work.

Mooting is a great way to practise advocacy. A moot is a debate-style competition where mooters present oral and written arguments for their clients in a fictional dispute. It combines research, legal analysis, public speaking, reasoning and persuasion—all of which are essential skills for an aspiring lawyer.

This year, MootSoc has planned a range of events, including workshops and practice competitions, to get more people involved in mooting at UC. We encourage anyone with an interest in advocacy or public speaking to come along, no matter their level of experience.
