Nau Mai Ki Pasifika Ringatoi | Welcoming a Pasifika Artist

The UCSA is seeking to partner with a talented Pasifika artist and commission a work to be displayed in Haere-roa Haere-roa is a home for students on campus and provides a place for students to connect with each other, relax and enjoy events. It is important to the UCSA that Haere-roa is a space where all students can feel like they belong. Haere-roa was designed with a cultural narrative, visually reflected in Kowhaiwhai patterns visible throughout the building. The name Haere-roa (translating to “longest stream” or “long wanderer”) was gifted by our mana whenua, Ngāi Tūāhuriri. However Haere-roa currently lacks visual representation of our Pasifika communities. In order to ensure Pasifika peoples are reflected in the building the UCSA is seeking to commission a work to be displayed in Haere-roa that celebrates Pasifika students at UC.

Broadly, the work should reflect the rich diversity and values of Pasifika communities as well as student life here at UC. We welcome applications from artists working in a range of mediums including film, painting, photography etc. The artist will work with the UCSA student executive and the UCSA operations and facilities manager on the concept and will then be paid to produce a work. It would be preferred for the artist to be a currently enrolled Pasifika student but may also be a member of the UC community or Alumni.

Sound like you? All you need to do is submit some examples of your work (could be a link to a social media page or website) by October 9th to Katie our Vice President at and we will be in touch!
