The UCSA holds a zero tolerance towards any forms of harassment at our events. We are committed to placing the safety of our employees, contractors, attendees and public above all else in order to ensure that UCSA ORI ’23 delivers the best possible start to your life at UC!

We hope that the following information equips you with the knowledge about what you can do if you feel unsafe at UCSA ORI ’23.

Security

We contract one of New Zealand’s leading security companies to keep you safe at all of our events. The guards are fully trained in crowd management and conflict resolution, and customer service is at the forefront of everything they do.

Red Frogs

Introducing Red Frogs New Zealand - they’re an epic team of volunteers you’ll wanna make friends with! They'll be at our ORI ’23 gigs to help make you feel safe and positive in many ways, including providing safe walk homes to halls and flats in the immediate Ilam area, and handing out free pancakes, red frog lollies and water.

Drug Checking

As part of wider alcohol and drug harm minimisation strategies, anonymous and free drug testing will be carried out around ORI ’23 by 'Know Your Stuff', a community organisation committed to reducing drug related harm at festivals and events.

The UCSA does not condone drug use of any kind, but we are aware of the realities that exist. Because of this, we feel harm prevention methods are necessary to keep you as safe as possible. Although we have little control over the intent for use, Know Your Stuff and the NZ Drug Foundation provide a service which helps to provide education and information to reach the same objective.

Drug checking will be held on Monday the 20th of February, at 51 Solway Avenue, Ilam, Christchurch 8041

The service will run from 3pm to 8pm.

Sustenance

We’ve got all of your food and water needs sorted at our gigs. The Foundry is your go-to for bar snacks – they’ll always be serving fried goodness to keep you going. Keep an eye out for our awesome food vendors at Summer Stein and Mardi Gras where you can purchase a delicious snack (dietary options available, of course). We’ll have the BBQ fired up at TOGA and will giving away free snags, veggie patties and hashbrowns so make sure to stop in and see us!

Thirsty? There will always be a water station nearby – because the aim is to have a good time and a long time!

Feeling unsafe at an event?

Our friendly event staff and security are always around to help!

A discreet way of getting in touch with us is by texting/calling 027 UCSA 111 (027 8272 111) with a description of what’s happening. This will go directly to a Senior member of the UCSA Events Team who will be able to provide assistance, whatever your situation may be.

Asking for an Angel Shot is another discreet way of telling our staff that you are feeling harassed in some way whilst at UCSA ORI ’23, and other events throughout the year. Our event, bar and security staff know that if an attendee asks for an Angel Shot, this means they are distressed and need assistance. We will discreetly get you to a safe space to support you in choosing how you would like to proceed.

At any point if you feel unsafe, intimidated, or harassed, please make sure you let us know, either using the above ways, or by reaching out to any staff on site!

Site Lighting

Rest assured that all of our outdoor site is lit throughout, so while the sun might be setting it’ll remain bright around Haere-roa.
